Rays Even Series With Rally Over Astros

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2, while Austin Pruitt picked up his second win of the year in relief as the Rays evened their three-gamne series with the Houston Astros with a 6-3 decision.

Blake Snell worked the first five innings of the game, allowing solo homers to Evan Gattis in the second and Jose Altuve in the fourth.

The Rays would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, as Tim Beckham singled with one out, followed by a base hit from Corey Dickerson.  Both runners would come home on a double by Evan Longoria.

Snell would leave in the sixth after giving up his fifth walk of the night, also to Altuve, and Tommy Hunter would allow the inherited runner to score from second on a groundout by Gattis.

Manager Kevin Cash would have to replace Hunter after the groundout, as he suffered a right calf strain, but Pruitt would retire all seven men he faced to improve to 2-0.

The Rays rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, with Steven Souza Jr. doubling, followed by a walk to Morrison and a single by Derek Norris to load the bases.  A.J. Hinch would bring in Will Harris to try and stave off the rally, but Shane Peterson's infield single plated Souza to tie the game, Tim Beckham's base hit then broke the tie, and pinch-hitter Peter Bourjos, playing again because of Kevin Kiermaier's illness, drove in Peterson and Beckham to give Tampa Bay some insurance.

Alex Colome worked a scoreless ninth, allowing just a two-out single to Alex Bregman, to notch his fourth save.

Tampa Bay can cap off a 5-1 homestand and their fourth consecutive series victory to start 2017 with a win in Sunday's finale.  Matt Andriese (1-0, 3.38 ERA) will get the start, taking on Joe Musgrove (1-1, 5.87 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 1:10, with coverage on WDAE starting at 11:00 with The Inside Pitch, presented by Sykes Lakeland.
