(via Tampa Bay Buccaneers Communications) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2017 regular-season schedule, released today by the National Football League, is highlighted by two primetime home matchups: hosting the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in Week 5 and a Monday Night Football contest against the Atlanta Falcons, the reigning NFC champions. Tampa Bay’s regular season begins on the road, facing the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. While the Buccaneers and Dolphins have faced off 30 times in the preseason, this will mark only the 11th regular season matchup between the two teams. Their last contest was a 22-19 Buccaneers victory on Monday Night Football in 2013, Tampa Bay’s fourth victory out of the last five matchups between the two teams.
In Week 2, the Buccaneers will have their first home game of the 2017 season, welcoming the Chicago Bears. This marks the third straight season that Tampa Bay has played host to Chicago, including a 36-10 Buccaneers win last season.
Week 3 sees Tampa Bay traveling to play the Minnesota Vikings. The Buccaneers have won their past three contests in Minnesota, however, this will be the team’s first time playing in U.S. Bank Stadium, which will host Super Bowl LII to culminate the upcoming NFL season.
The Buccaneers return to Raymond James Stadium in Week 4 to host the New York Giants, with the team’s first late afternoon kickoff of the year, a 4:05 p.m. ET start.
On October 5, Tampa Bay will host the first of two scheduled primetime home games, a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Super Bowl LI champion New England Patriots. The contest will be New England’s first trip to Tampa since 1997 and the first time that the Patriots will play a regular season game in Raymond James Stadium.
The Buccaneers then play two contests on the road, traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6 and playing at the Buffalo Bills in Week 7. The team’s matchup against Buffalo will be only the second regular season game in Buffalo in Buccaneers history. Tampa Bay holds a 7-3 all-time lead in the series.
Tampa Bay then opens divisional play with back-to-back games, hosting the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 before traveling to the New Orleans Saints in Week 9. Last season the Buccaneers posted a 4-2 record in the division, including a sweep of the Panthers for the first time since 2011 and a home victory against the Saints for the first time since 2011.
The Buccaneers then host their second New York team of the season, with the New York Jets visiting Raymond James Stadium in Week 10, followed by a Week 11 bye for Tampa Bay – the latest Bye Week for the Buccaneers since 1990 (Week 14).
Following the Bye Week, Tampa Bay travels to the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons for the Buccaneers’ first-ever game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Last season the two teams split the season series and the all-time series is tightly contested, with Tampa Bay holding a 24-23 lead.
The Buccaneers will play another away contest the following week, going on the road to face the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay’s first trip to Lambeau Field since 2011.
After playing in Green Bay, the Buccaneers return home to face the Detroit Lions at Raymond James Stadium in Week 14.
Tampa Bay closes out the regular season with three divisional contests starting with a Monday Night Football matchup between the Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons.
Weeks 16 and 17 see Tampa Bay traveling to the Carolina Panthers for a Christmas Eve contest, before returning home to close out the season against the New Orleans Saints on New Year’s Eve.
All games will feature a radio broadcast on 98Rock (WXTB-97.9 FM), as well as stations throughout Florida that are part of the Buccaneers Radio Network. In addition, fans can listen online at Buccaneers.com and on the Buccaneers mobile app.
This season, the NFL will again utilize “flexible scheduling,” which may be applied in Weeks 5-17. Up to two games may be flexed into Sunday Night Football between Weeks 5-10. A select number of games may also be “cross-flexed,” moving between CBS and FOX to bring potentially under-distributed games to wider audiences.
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-17 as usual and it will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.
A flexible scheduling move would be announced at least 12 days before the affected game. For Week 17, the change may be announced six days before the game. Flexible scheduling is intended to ensure quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks where it is applied.
