Rays Beat Up Porcello To Snap Losing Skid

Logan Morrison hit a grand slam, and Brad Miller finished a double short of the cycle as the Tampa Bay Rays beat up the Boston Red Sox 10-5 Friday to snap their three-game losing streak and take the opener of a four-game series.

The scoring started in the top of the second inning, as Red Sox starter Rick Porcello allowed a one-out double to Logan Morrison, and after Derek Norris struck out, Shane Peterson, called up after Mallex Smith was placed on the disabled list, took Porcello deep for his first home run as a member of the Rays in his first plate appearance and a 2-0 lead.

Porcello's poor night continued an inning later, as he allowed a one-out walk to Evan Longoria, a single to Miller, and a walk to Steven Souza Jr. before Logan Morrison, who had not hit a grand slam in his big-league career, sent a Porcello offering deep into the seats in right.

Miller and Souza would end up finishing out Porcello's night with back-to-back solo homers in the fifth inning.

Archer put up zeros for the first four innings, but a bloop double by Dustin Pedroia followed by an RBI single by Andrew Benintendi made it a 6-1 game.

Miller and Souza would combine to get the lead back to eight runs with a triple off reliever Robbie Ross Jr. followed by a base hit, and Shane Peterson's single scored Souza for a 10-1 advantage.

Rays rookie reliever Austin Pruitt came on to try and get a three-inning save, and allowed a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Hanley Ramirez.  However, after a clean eighth, Pruitt gave up three more runs in the ninth, forcing manager Kevin Cash to go to Alex Colome, who got the final two outs to finish the game.

Tampa Bay will look to make it two wins in a row, as Jake Odorizzi (1-1, 4.50 ERA) takes on Chris Sale (0-1, 1.23 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 4:05, with coverage on WDAE beginning at 3:00 with The Inside Pitch, presented by Sykes Lakeland.
