Rays Bring In Another Outfielder

The Rays have been looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder that could back up Kevin Kiermaier in centerfield, and may have found him in the Windy City.

Dan Hayes of Comcast SportsNet Chicago reported early Tuesday that Tampa Bay agreed to acquire minor-league outfielder Peter Bourjos from the White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.

Bourjos, who turns 30 on Friday, spent 2016 with the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting .252/.292/.389 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 383 plate appearances.  His best season came in 2011 with the Los Angeles Angels, when he hit .271/.327/.438 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI and a league-leading 11 triples.

The team has not confirmed the deal.

UPDATE 10:45 AM: The Rays have now confirmed the trade with the White Sox, sending either cash considerations or a player to be named later to Chicago for Bourjos.
