BRADENTON (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays added to their bullpen Friday, claiming reliever Jumbo Diaz off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.
The 33-year-old right-hander, listed at 6'4" and 280 pounds, went 1-1 with a 3.14 earned run average in 44 appearances in Cincinnati in 2016. In 142 career relief appearances, he is 3-3 with a 3.65 ERA, and has struck out 142 in 138 career innings pitches.
Diaz is currently with the Dominican Republic team in the World Baseball Classic.
To make room on the 40-man roster, pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
