FSU Eliminated From ACC Tourney By Notre Dame

It was built as a battle of two of the best teams in the ACC, but it was the luck of the Irish from behind the three point arc which chopped the Florida State Seminoles ACC Tournament hopes in a 77-73 Notre Dame win on Friday night in the tourney semifinal round.  The Irish connected on 13-three pointers in a game that Florida State simply couldn’t keep up with.

Notre Dame’s  deep aerial threats from three point range were evident in the very beginning as the Irish first 15 points were all courtesy of the three point basket.  The Irish went on a 7-0 and an 11-2 run late in the first half to pull away from the Seminoles and found themselves at the half with a sizable 42-26 advantage.  Notre Dame’s 42 was half from the field, and half from beyond three point arc.

Things didn’t get any better for Florida State in the second half as the Irish led by as many as 18 points in the second half.  The Noles didn’t connect themselves from three point range till after 26 minutes of play in the game, and played a majority of the rest of the game simply matching the Irish basket for basket.

Steve Vasturia and Bonzie Colson led all scorers for Notre Dame with 18 points each, and Matt Farrell scored 15 points for the Irish.  Notre Dame ended the game shooting 47% from the field, but 48% from three point range.

Braian Angola-Rodas scored 17 points off the bench for Florida State, Dwayne Bacon led FSU with 18  points.

FSU will now await their fate on selection Sunday to see where they will play in the NCAA Tournament.
