PORT CHARLOTTE (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays got two scoreless innings from both Chris Archer and Chase Whitley, along with a home run from Rickie Weeks Jr. and two RBI singles for Luke Maile, helping secure a 7-3 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Beckham's hot spring start continued in the second inning, as he doubled to right in the second inning, scoring on a base hit by Jesus Sucre to open the scoring.
Tampa Bay added single runs in both the third, on Weeks' first homer of the spring, and the fourth on an RBI infield single from Maile.
Archer allowed a hit and a walk, striking out one while pitching the first two frames. Whitley added a scoreless third and fourth, striking out the side in his second inning of work.
The Red Sox scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Matt Dominguez and a two-run base hit from Cole Sturgeon, but would get no closer.
Minor-league outfielder Joe McCarthy, who doubled earlier in the game, but things back out of reach in the eighth with a two-run blast to right-field off reliever Luis Ysla, and Maile capped the scoring later in the inning with his second RBI single, scoring Jake Cronenworth.
Tampa Bay makes their first trip to Clearwater Monday, and a matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies, with left-hander Blake Snell making his spring debut against Jerad Eickhoff. First pitch from Spectrum Field is set for 1:05.
