Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw and Tampa Bay Rays left hander Shane McClanahan will be the starting pitchers for the All-Star Game on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. The news was announced at a press conference earlier today in Los Angeles.
Though this is Kershaw's ninth All-Star appearance and McClanahan's first, both are first-time starters for the Midsummer Classic.
Kershaw is 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA for the NL-best Dodgers. McClanahan has posted a 10-3 mark with an MLB-best 1.71 ERA and is tied for second with 147 strikeouts this season.
This marks the second time that a Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher has began the mid-summer classic. David Price started for the American League in 2010 with the All Star Game held in Anaheim, CA.
