(via USF Communications) - Head Coach Jeff Scott has named sophomore quarterback Cade Fortin (Suwanee, Ga.) as the Bulls’ Game 1 starter for the 2021 season presented by Tampa General Hospital.

The Bulls will open the 2021 campaign with a Thursday night, primetime matchup at NC State on Sept. 2 in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on the ACC Network.

Fortin saw action in two games in the pandemic shortened 2021 season, his first at USF after spending his first two collegiate seasons at North Carolina. The 6-3, 221-pounder completed 4-of-8 passes for 39 yards and ran four times for 39 yards last season as he saw action at Cincinnati and vs. Tulsa. He led the Bulls on a 72-yard scoring drive vs. the Hurricane, going 2-of-2 for 25 yards through the air and running four times for 39 yards before leaving with an injury shortly before the drive was completed.

A former four-star rated prospect by ESPN.com, Fortin played in four games and made two starts as a true freshman at North Carolina, going 23-of-65 for 388 yards and a touchdown passing and running for 76 yards and a touchdown in 2018. He set career highs vs. NC State that year, going 19-of-40 passing for 276 yards and a touchdown, while also running for a touchdown vs. the Wolfpack.
