The Florida State Seminoles fell to the Panthers from PITT 41-17 on Saturday in Tallahassee as the Noles found a way to release a 14-3 lead in the first quarter and then be outscored 38-3 for the rest of the afternoon. Three key turnovers by three different Florida State quarterbacks slowed the fast start by the Noles and allowed the rushing attack of the Panthers to take over the game and make their way to a victory.
After an early field goal by PITT to take the early lead, the Seminoles scored twice on the ground to take a commanding yet early 14-3 lead. Wyatt Rector’s one yard score followed by Jordan Travis’ 88 yard touchdown run had the fans at Doak Campbell roaring early for their hometown team. That’s when PITT quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Panthers offense went to work as they scored on three drives in the remainder of the first half to take a 24-17 lead into the half. Nick Patti ran for a pair of touchdowns, and Pickett rushed for one of his own to close out the half for PITT.
Vincent Davis ran for another red zone rushing touchdown for PITT in the third quarter extending their lead to 31-17, and a pick six by Brandon Hill sealed the game late in the fourth quarter for the Panthers.
Jordan Travis led the Noles on the ground with 83 yards rushing on 14 carries, while Jordan Travis and Chubba Purdy struggled combining for a 23/39 performance for 144 yards passing and two interceptions. PITT outgained Florida State 358-290 on the night.
The Seminoles find themselves at 1-5 in the ACC in Mike Norvell’s first season, and will head on the road to take on North Carolina State next Saturday.
