ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays opened another spot on the 40-man roster Wednesday, trading right-handed pitcher Jose De Leon to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
De Leon was acquired by the Rays from the Los Angeles Dodgers on January 23, 2017 in a deal that sent infielder Logan Forsythe to the National League West. In his time with Tampa Bay, the 27-year-old made just four appearances at the big-league level, all in relief, with a 2-0 record and a 5.40 ERA. He missed all of 2018 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery during Spring Training, but returned to make three relief appearances for the Major League club in 2019, with a 1-0 record and a 2.25 ERA.
