Striving On Special Teams At USF Could Help Wilkins Find Spot With Bucs

If you're a Bucs fan, you're probably well aware of the team's frequent attempts over the last three years to address needs in the secondary. From cornerbacks Vernon Hargreaves & Ryans Smith, who were drafted in 2016 to the four more cornerbacks including Carlton Davis, M.J. Stewart, Sean Murphy-Bunting & Jamel Dean, who were selected over the last two NFL drafts, the Bucs have been trying to address what is required to have in a quality defensive & that's a stock full of capable cornerbacks. But whether it's training camp or the first two preseason games, it's starting to look like the Bucs may have a new cornerback on their final roster. And the new addition may have started making his mark on special teams in college right in Tampa.

While other players listed above have either struggled or not made impact plays in the team's first two preseason games, rookie Mazzi Wilkins from USF has made his shown up in multiple ways. The undrafted cornerback, who played high school football at Plant High, forced a fumble in his first ever NFL game against Pittsburgh. And this past Friday night against Miami at Raymond James Stadium, a place he knows well from his college days, Wilkins thrived on special teams, a part of the game that you will notice from the video below Wilkins says he has always excelled in.
