Last year wide receiver Adam Humphries had 76 catches & five touchdowns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also, wide receiver DeSean Jackson grabbed 41 receptions & four touchdowns for the team last year. But because Humphries signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans & Jackson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, neither player will be in Tampa Bay for this upcoming season..And that leaves a combined 117 catches plus 9 touchdowns that have been lost since the end of last year.
The natural move is that third year wide receiver Chris Godwin will step into the number two wide receiver position behind Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans. That will probably also mean that Godwin's targets & catches will increase. But with Humphries gone & Godwin moving into his new role, the team will also have a new number three wide receiver. Enter second year wide receiver Justin Watson.
Watson, who appeared in 12 games last year, mostly on special teams, has just one career catch. But the fifth round pick from the University of Pennsylvania has been impressive in the early part of training camp.
Watson met with the media on Sunday before training camp practice & in the video below, he discusses the desire to take advantage of the opportunity he & the other young wide receivers have in helping the team replace the two veteran wide receivers lost this off-season.
