The Tampa Bay Buccaneers started the last day of the NFL Draft by selecting their fifth straight defensive player. With the fifth pick in the fourth round, the Buccaneers selected defensive end Anthony Nelson from Iowa. Nelson, six foot seven inches 271 pounds, was second in the Big Ten with 9.5 sacks last year.
Tampa Bay ended their string of consecutive defensive player selections when they drafted kicker Matt Gay from Utah. While at Utah, Gay twice earned first team All-Pac 12 honors & left Utah third all-time with 56 career field goals plus set the school record with 8 field goals in his career of 50 yards or more.
After selecting a kicker, Tampa Bay drafted their one & only offensive in this year's draft when they selected wide receiver Scotty Miller from Bowling Green. Miller, five feet 11 inches 166 pounds, started 11 games last year, led his team with 1,148 receiving yards & his 104.4 receiving yards per game ranked seventh nationally.
The Buccaneers final pick of the draft was used to add depth on the defensive line. In the seven round, the Buccaneers selected defensive tackle Terry Beckner from Missouri. Beckner, six foot four inches 295 pounds, was a top 10 recruit out of high school & put up impressive numbers his freshman year as a Tiger. In his first season at Missouri, Beckner recorded three sacks, 27 tackles & earned Freshman All-American Honors.
Beckner suffered injuries in both his freshman & sophomore year but the senior bounced back in 2017 when he started all 13 games & in 2018 when he was voted second team all-conference.
