ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays made a half-dozen roster moves prior to Sunday's finale against the Boston Red Sox.
The biggest move was that they placed outfielder Austin Meadows on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb sprain. Meadows said Sunday morning that he injured his thumb sliding headfirst into third base on his two-run triple in the seventh inning Saturday, and had an MRI after the game which showed "some damage."
In addition, reliever Hunter Wood was placed on the paternity list, as he and his wife Hannah are expecting their third child, a girl, and pitcher Jake Faria was optioned to Triple-A Durham. Infielder Joey Wendle, who has been out since March 30 with a hamstring injury, was activated from the 10-day injured list, and both reliever Emilio Pagan and infielder/outfielder Andrew Velazquez were recalled from Durham.
