Lightning Shut Out Montreal For Fifth Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning (44-11-4) shut out the Montreal Canadiens (31-20-7) 3-0 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena.

The Lightning played an all around good defensive game, only allowing twenty shots on net - all twenty of which goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped, earning his second shutout in a row and 18th overall. The eighteen career shutouts for the Lightning sets a new franchise record for shutouts from a goalie, surpassing Ben Bishop, who had 17 shutouts in his time in net for the Lightning.

After a scoreless first two periods, the Lightning broke through with three goals in the third period. After Nikita Kucherov scored for the fourth straight game at the 2:16 mark of the third period, Yanni Gourde made it 2-0 just eighty-five seconds later. Tyler Johnson made it 3-0 at the 16:46 mark and from that point the Lightning held on to the shutout and the victory.

The Lightning no go on the road for back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday night. The road trip begins Monday in Columbus against the Blue Jackets - puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM - you can hear the game, beginning with pregame coverage at 7, on News Radio WFLA.
